System requirements
Review the supported operating system distributions, Java Runtime environments, and external metadata database configurations required for configuring Cloudera Manager and Cloudera Runtime deployments in FIPS mode.
Operating system requirements
- Cloudera supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.6 minor versions for both FIPS and non-FIPS environments.
- Operating system instances must be pre-configured and hardened in FIPS mode before installation according to STIG and Center for Internet Security (CIS) Benchmark Level 2 guidelines.
Java Runtime environments (JRE/JDK)
FIPS-compliant deployments require OpenJDK 17 running across all cluster hosts.
For more information, see Java requirements.
External metadata databases
The embedded version of PostgreSQL is not supported for FIPS-compliant clusters. External databases must be explicitly configured to communicate using FIPS 140-3-compliant encryption.
The following database versions are supoprted:
- PostgreSQL 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18
For instructions on installing and configuring a database, see Install and configure database.
