Renaming storage directories using Cloudera Manager

You can use Cloudera Manager to safely rename existing HDFS storage directories and update directory paths without risking data loss.

  1. Sign in to Cloudera Manager.
  2. In the left navigation menu, click Clusters.
  3. Click the HDFS cluster.
  4. Click Actions dropdown button and click Stop to stop the cluster.
  5. Go to the HDFS service.
  6. Click the Configuration tab.
  7. Select Scope > DataNode.
  8. Search for DataNode Data Directory property
  9. Remove the current directories and add new ones to the DataNode Data Directory property.
  10. Enter a Reason for change, and then click Save Changes to commit the changes.
  11. Copy the contents under the old directory to the new directory.
  12. Start the cluster.
