Replication Manager App (technical preview)
The Replication Manager App provides a centralized control plane to create and manage replication policies across clusters in the Cloudera Base on premises environments.
In Cloudera Base on premises 7.3.1.0 and higher versions using Cloudera Manager 7.13.1 and higher versions, you can deploy the Replication Manager App as a service in Cloudera Manager. You can manage this service as any other service in Cloudera Manager. You can create and manage HDFS, Hive external tables, and Ozone replication policies as well as HDFS and HBase snapshot policies in the Replication Manager App UI.
To create the replication policies in the new Replication Manager App UI, you must perform the following steps:
- Deploy and add the service in Cloudera Manager.
- Register the source and target clusters.
- Go to the Replication Manager App UI to create the replication policies.
Replication Manager App benefits and capabilities
The Replication Manager App provides the following advantages over the Cloudera Base on premises Replication Manager.:
- Centralized control plane
You can manage all your replication policies across all clusters on a single dashboard for streamlined operations and ease of use.
Previously, you had to manually configure the peer relationships for each cluster pair, and manage the replication policies from each cluster's individual Replication Manager UI from Cloudera Manager, with no unified view across the environments. The Replication Manager App removes this bottleneck with the centralized control plane. You can now register all your clusters only once and manage all the replication policies across all the cluster pairs from a single dashboard. This eliminates repetitive per-cluster configuration and significantly reduces operational overhead, particularly for medium to large deployments with multiple cluster pairs.
Use case
A financial services company operates more than 10 cluster pairs across multiple data centers. Previously, the Replication Administrator logged into each cluster individually to configure the peers and track the replication policy job status. With the Replication Manager App, the Replication Administrator registers all the clusters once and manages all the replication policies from a single view on the dashboard. This reduces the time spent on routine policy management and minimizes the risk of configuration drift across clusters.
- Advanced features
- Zero-touch policy migration
When you install the Replication Manager App and register your existing clusters, all the existing replication policies automatically synchronize and are displayed in the UI. Replication history, run logs, and policy configurations for the replication policies are carried over to avoid operational disruptions during the transition.
Use case
An enterprise customer managing more than 500 replication policies wants to adopt Replication Manager App without manually recreating their hundreds of replication policies. After completing the one-time cluster registration, all the existing replication policies and configurations in the Cloudera Base on premises Replication Manager are automatically displayed in the Replication Manager App UI. This enables the team to immediately use the centralized control plane without any replication policy setup work.
-
Scalable, reliable UI
The Replication Manager App significantly improves the UI responsiveness which allows you to browse, create, edit, and troubleshoot individual replication policies without the UI freezing or stalling, even when managing large numbers of replication policies.
Use case
A large enterprise customer managing more than 500 replication policies creates or edits replication policies on a daily basis. With the Replication Manager App, the administrators can now perform routine operations smoothly and responsively even at this scale without the UI becoming a bottleneck to their workflow.
- Zero-touch policy migration
- Consistent user experience across on-premises and
cloud Replication Manager UI
The Replication Manager App UI aligns with the Cloudera Replication Manager UI, therefore the on-premises users can now experience the same UI capabilities as cloud users. This eliminates the learning curve for teams operating in hybrid environments, and ensures that teams planning a cloud migration can apply their existing knowledge directly to cloud deployments.
- Standalone updates or independent release
cadenceThe Replication Manager App ships on an independent release cadence, thereby delivering UI improvements and UI bug fixes without requiring a full platform upgrade cycle.
Use case
A customer reports a UI issue with replication policy filtering and search when managing a large number of replication policy jobs. Because the Replication Manager App parcel updates are shipped independently, the fix can be delivered in the subsequent Replication Manager App release without waiting for a platform upgrade window.
