Suspending and resuming Cloudera Data Engineering virtual clusters using the Cloudera Data Engineering UI

Learn about how to suspend and resume Cloudera Data Engineering virtual clusters using the Cloudera Data Engineering UI.

The following prerequisites are valid for suspending or resuming Cloudera Data Engineering VCs:

  • You must have DEAdmin role.
  • You must have the DE_ENABLE_VC_SUSPEND_RESUME entitlement.

The virtual cluster-level suspend and resume feature is implemented as a convenient, user-friendly, one-step procedure.

When you suspend a VC, the following procedure is carried out:

  1. The VC is transitioned to maintenance mode, in which the following events occur:
    • The VC is locked
    • Running jobs and sessions are terminated
    • Job schedules are paused
  2. The suspend operation is started by scaling down all the infrastructure deployments of the given VC.

Depending on the distribution of the pods, the associated node can be released.

When you resume a VC, the following procedure is carried out:

  1. The VC is resumed.
  2. The VC exits maintenance mode, which involves the following actions:
    • Unpausing all the job schedules
    • Unlocking the VC
  1. Suspend a Cloudera Data Engineering Virtual Cluster.
    1. On the Cloudera Data Engineering UI, select Administration in the left navigation menu.
    2. Select the required Cloudera Data Engineering service, and after that select the (three dot menu) icon of the required virtual cluster.
    3. Select the Suspend option from the three dot menu. The status of the virtual cluster is modified to Suspending, and then to Suspended.
  2. Resume a Cloudera Data Engineering virtual cluster.
    1. Select Resume in the (three dot menu) of the previously suspended virtual cluster. The status of the virtual cluster is modified to Resuming, and then to Running.
