Specifying adminUsers and adminGroups for Data Analytics Studio (DAS)

You can add CDP users and groups to DAS for Hive Virtual Warehouses in the Data Warehouse service by using the steps described in this topic.

Required role: DWAdmin

DAS in Data Warehouse service is integrated with the User Management feature of CDP Management Console:

  • DAS adminUsers are the users specified by the Workload User Name in User Management:

  • DAS adminGroups can be defined in User Management by adding workload users to Groups you create:

Ensure that you have created the groups you need by using the User Management feature of Management Console. For instructions about adding users and groups with Management Console, see the links at the bottom of this page.

  1. In the CDP web UI, click Data Warehouses in the left navigation menu.
  2. In the Data Warehouse service UI Overview page, select the Hive Virtual Warehouse for which you want to add DAS adminUsers and adminGroups, and click its edit icon.
  3. On the Virtual Warehouses detail page, click the DAS Webapp tab and from the configuration file drop-down list, select das-webapp-json:

  4. In the das-webapp-json configuration file, add "adminGroups":"", and then add "adminUsers":"", under the authConfig object. Specify adminGroups and adminUsers in a comma-separated list of group and user names. For example:

         "adminUsers": "user-1,user-2,user-3",
         "appUserName": "hive",
         "authorizationMode": "RANGER",
  5. After making your changes, click Apply in the upper right corner of the page. The DAS service will be unavailable for approximately 5 minutes to make the update.

    You can check the DAS service while still in the Virtual Warehouse details page by selecting Open DAS from the Actions menu in the upper right corner of the page to determine whether it is available after making the change.
