Enabling HDFS Encrypted Transport

To enable encryption, proceed as follows:
  1. Enable Hadoop security using Kerberos.
  2. Select the HDFS service.
  3. Select Configuration > View and Edit.
  4. Expand the Service-Wide category and click the Security subcategory.
  5. Check the Enable Data Transfer Encryption checkbox and in Hadoop RPC Protection property, click the privacy radio button.
  6. Click the Save Changes button.
  7. Restart the HDFS service.
