Generating an API access key

CDP manages access to CDP services so that only registered users can access clusters or run CDP commands to create clusters and run jobs.

The CDP client requires an API access key to make service requests. Configure the client with an access key so that you can access the CDP API and run commands to deploy clusters and run jobs. When you configure the client with your access key, CDP creates a credentials file so that you do not need to submit your access key with each command.

You can also use the credentials file with the Impala JDBC Connector for Cloudera to connect to Data Warehouse clusters.

Use the Management Console console to generate an API access key. The API access key consists of an access key ID and a private key.

  1. Navigate to the Management Console.
  2. Click your user account name and select Profile.
  3. On the user profile page that appears, click Generate Access Key. CDP creates the key and displays the information on the screen. Optionally, you can download the credentials file containing the access key information.
  4. Optionally, you can download the credentials file containing the access key information.

By default, CDP looks for the credentials file in the .cdp directory in your user home directory.

You can use the credentials file with the Impala JDBC connector to connect to a Data Warehouse cluster from a business intelligence client tool. You do not need to install the CDP client if you have the credentials file in the .cdp directory in your user home directory.
