This document describes the process of manually installing and configuring Apache Flume for use with the Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP). Flume is the 1.x release line of the Flume project.

What follows is a very high level description of the mechanism. For much greater detail, see
the Flume html documentation set that is installed with Flume. Once you have installed
Flume, the documentation set can be accessed at
