Registering and Deregistering Clusters in Cloudera Manager
Follow these procedures to register active clusters under a Version 2 (V2) license or deregister decommissioned clusters in Cloudera Manager.
Registering Clusters Online (Connected Environments)
Use this procedure to register one or more active clusters when your Cloudera Manager instance has direct outbound internet access to Cloudera servers.
- Before you begin
-
-
Role Requirement: You must hold Full Administrator privileges in Cloudera Manager.
-
License File: You must upload a valid V2 license file to Cloudera Manager 7.13.2 SP1 (7.13.2.10000) or higher.
-
Connectivity: Cloudera Manager must have outbound internet connectivity to Cloudera registration endpoints.
-
- Steps
-
-
Log in to the Cloudera Manager Admin Console.
-
Navigate to the Cluster Registration page or locate the Cluster Registration Status section.
-
Select the checkboxes next to the specific clusters you want to register (or select all clusters).
-
Click Online Registration (or Register).
-
When the system prompts you with a confirmation dialog, click Confirm.
-
Cloudera Manager connects directly to the registration server, completes the registration process, updates the status in the Cluster Registration Status table to REGISTERED, and displays the timestamp of the last successful report.
Registering Clusters Offline in Air-Gapped Environments (Bulk Update)
Use this procedure to complete offline cluster registration or re-registration when you deploy a V2 license key in air-gapped Cloudera Manager environments. This workflow uses a two-way file exchange between your offline Cloudera Manager instance and an internet-connected browser session logged into Cloudera Account 360.
To avoid registering air-gapped clusters individually, Cloudera Manager provides the Bulk Cluster Key Migration feature. You can export a single JSON package containing details for all managed clusters, upload it once to Cloudera Account 360 using an internet-connected device, and import a single confirmation package back to register all clusters simultaneously.
- Before you begin
-
-
Role Requirement: You must hold Full Administrator privileges in Cloudera Manager.
-
Account Access: You need valid login credentials for Cloudera Account 360 on an internet-connected device.
-
License File: You must upload a valid V2 license file to Cloudera Manager 7.13.2 SP1 (7.13.2.10000) or higher.
-
Transfer Media: A portable storage device or secure transfer mechanism to move files between your air-gapped network and the internet-connected workstation.
-
- Steps
- Follow these steps to complete the offline bulk registration process:
- Generate and download the registration JSON package from
your air-gapped Cloudera Manager environment.
- Log in to the air-gapped Cloudera Manager Admin Console.
-
Navigate to the Cluster Registration page.
-
Select the target clusters and click Offline Registration (or Bulk Migration).
-
Click Download Registration Request.
-
Save the generated
.jsonfile to your local machine or portable storage device.
- Upload the registration package to Cloudera Account
360 from an internet-connected device.
- Transfer the downloaded
.jsonpackage to an internet-connected workstation. -
Open a web browser, log in to Cloudera Account 360, and navigate to (or the registration portal).
-
Click Upload Registration Response and select the
.jsonpackage you generated in Step 1 (or manually copy and paste the JSON content into the portal).
- Transfer the downloaded
- Validate and select your clusters for migration in
Cloudera Account 360.
-
-
Review the parsed list of clusters that the system extracts from your JSON file.
-
Select the specific clusters (or choose Select All) that you want to register under the new license key.
-
Click Validate and Submit.
- Troubleshooting validation errors:
-
If any cluster in a bulk upload request fails entitlement validation, the system rejects the entire request. Cloudera Account 360 displays an explicit error message identifying the failing cluster. You must resolve the entitlement conflict or deselect the failing cluster before resubmitting the request.
-
-
- Download the signed confirmation package from Cloudera
Account 360.
-
Once validation completes successfully, Cloudera Account 360 generates a signed registration confirmation file.
-
Click Download Confirmation Package and save the file.
-
Transfer the confirmation file back to your air-gapped Cloudera Manager environment.
-
- Import the confirmation package into your air-gapped Cloudera Manager instance to complete registration.
-
Return to the air-gapped Cloudera Manager Admin Console.
-
On the Offline Registration prompt page, click Upload Confirmation.
-
Select the confirmation package file you downloaded from Cloudera Account 360 and click Apply.
-
Verify that Cloudera Manager validates the confirmation file.
-
Once you import the file, Cloudera Manager reads the confirmation, acknowledges the cluster registration with Cloudera, updates the status to REGISTERED, and unlocks the clusters to restore normal management functions.
- Generate and download the registration JSON package from
your air-gapped Cloudera Manager environment.
Deregistering Deleted Clusters
Follow these steps to remove a decommissioned cluster from the Cloudera license server and release its associated license entitlements for reuse on other deployments.
- Before you begin
-
-
Role Requirement: You must hold Full Administrator privileges in Cloudera Manager.
-
Deletion Requirement: You must delete the target cluster from Cloudera Manager before it appears on the deregistration page. Active clusters do not appear on this page.
-
- Steps
-
-
In the Cloudera Manager Admin Console, delete the cluster you want to decommission.
-
Navigate to the Cluster Deregistration page.
-
Verify that the deleted cluster appears in the list.
-
Execute deregistration based on your environment type:
-
Connected Environments: Select the deleted cluster and click Deregister to automatically notify the license server and release entitlements.
-
Air-Gapped Environments: Select the deleted cluster, click Offline Deregistration, download the deregistration request JSON, upload and process it in Cloudera Account 360, and import the signed deregistration confirmation back into Cloudera Manager.
-
Once deregistered, the license server frees up the cluster node resources for allocation to other clusters.
