Managing Licenses and Cluster Registration

When you install Cloudera Manager, you can either upload a valid Cloudera Base on premises license or select a free 60-day trial version.

Cloudera Base on premises supports the following license categories:

Cloudera Base on premises Edition (V2 License): Starting in Cloudera Manager 7.13.2.10000 (Cloudera Runtime 7.3.2 SP1), Cloudera introduces V2 licenses, which require Mandatory Cluster Registration. Upon uploading a V2 license key or creating a new cluster, Cloudera Manager initiates a 60-day registration grace period.
- Connected Environments: Cloudera Manager automatically completes registration with Cloudera servers.
- Air-Gapped Environments: Administrators must manually register clusters in bulk using Cloudera Account 360.

If a cluster is not registered within the 60-day grace period, it enters a Locked state. In a Locked state, active data workloads continue to process data normally, but Cloudera Manager freezes all administrative management functions. You cannot start, restart, or configure cluster services until registration completes.
Cloudera Base on premises Edition (Standard License): Legacy license format for earlier Cloudera Manager releases. When a standard license expires, you can no longer access the Cloudera Manager Admin Console to manage your clusters until you upload a valid license. However, your clusters continue to function, your data remains intact, and your running jobs keep executing.
Cloudera Base on premises Edition Trial: A free 60-day trial that does not require an initial license file. When the 60-day trial period expires, access to the Cloudera Manager Admin Console is restricted until you upload a valid license. As with standard licenses, your underlying cluster workloads continue to run uninterrupted. You can use a trial license only once; after it expires or ends, you cannot restart the trial.
