Product Release Notes - June 26, 2023

This enhancement is a response to the high demands of data teams for comprehensive analysis and visualization tools. Learn about the extended broad coverage of Cloudera Octopai Platform by developing a universal solution that complements the existing Cloudera Octopai Universal Connector for Databases and ETL tools.

Universal Connector for Reporting Tools

Overview

The Universal Connector for Reporting Tools enables integration of metadata from various types of systems into the Cloudera Octopai platform, thus providing a holistic view of your data ecosystem with complete data lineage, discovery, and a comprehensive data catalog.

Building upon the flexibility offered by the existing Universal Connector for Databases and ETL tools, the new Universal Connector for Reporting Tools further enhances Cloudera Octopai's capabilities. Native connectors are also provided for popular tools like Tableau, Power BI, Cognos, MicroStrategy, Qlik, Looker, SSRS, and more. This multi-level flexibility and compatibility enable a comprehensive mapping of the data landscape, offering an all-encompassing view of your data ecosystem regardless of the tools you utilize.

Key features

  • High ingestion capabilities – The Universal Connector for Reporting Tools, similar to the existing Universal Connector for Databases and ETL tools, allows for large amounts of data to be ingested into the platform, facilitating an exhaustive examination of your data landscape.

  • No blind spots – Enhanced visibility of your complete data ecosystem enables confident decision-making and data transformations.

  • Adaptable to your data landscape – As the data demands evolve, so do your needs for analysis and visualization. With the Universal Connector, you can easily adapt to changing data landscapes and get a complete view of your data systems without any blind spots.

How it works

Customer steps

  • Apply a simple implementation process. The ingestion process is automatic.

  • Prepare and load a CSV file.

Prepare a CSV file that contains structured data about the source and target input structure. This includes the model name, report path and name, database type, server name, database name, schema name, source object type, column names, and other specific details as listed in the article Enhancing Data Connectivity: Octopai's Universal Connector for Reporting Tools Guide.

Cloudera Octopai actions

  • The ingested metadata, along with the metadata automatically ingested from out-of-the-box supported systems, is analyzed using machine learning. As a result, Cloudera Octopai provides users with complete data lineage, discovery, and a comprehensive data catalog.
