Trellised word clouds

Cloudera Data Visualization allows you to create trellised Word Cloud visuals to compare text patterns across different categories.

In the following example, you can compare the text profiles of selected plays from William Shakespeare using trellised word clouds. The example uses the Shakespeare's Plays dataset, created from the shakespeare_play_text.csv file.

  1. Start a new visual based on the Shakespeare's Plays dataset.
For detailed instructions on how to get started, see Creating a visual.
  2. In the VISUALS menu, select Word Cloud.
  3. Populate the visual shelves using the following fields:
    1. Add Text to the Dimension shelf.
    2. Add Record Count to the Measure shelf.
    3. Add Play to the X Trellis shelf to trellis the visual.
    4. Add Play to the Filters shelf, select a few plays for comparison.
In this example the visual is filtered on Anthony and Cleopatra, Hamlet, Julius Caesar, Othello, and Troilus and Cressida.
  4. Optional: Remove the trellis borders for a cleaner look.
See Displaying trellis borders for instructions.
  5. Click REFRESH VISUAL to generate the trellised word clouds.
  6. Click SAVE.

You now see individual Word Cloud visuals for each selected play, allowing you to easily compare their language. Prominent words stand out in each visual.
