Creating a budget
You can create a budget to track spending against specific cost centers or environments, set durations, and configure alert notifications when thresholds are exceeded.
- Log in to the Cloudera Observability web UI.
- From the Cloudera Observability Main navigation panel, select Financial Governance > Budgeting.

Click Create Budget.
The Create Budget page opens.
- In the Budget Name field, enter a unique name for your budget.
- Under Select Scope, select either Cost Centers or Environments.
- From the Cost Centers or Environments section, click inside its text field to display a hierarchical list of your Cost Centers or Environments. Select one or more.
- In the Budget Amount field, enter the value represented in $.

Set the budget duration using the Frequency drop-down.
Budget Frequency options: When creating a budget, you must set a recurring interval for the budget period.
Frequency Budget Period Definition Daily From UTC midnight to midnight of the current day. Weekly From Monday to Sunday of that week. Monthly Starts on the first day of the month and ends on the last day. Consumption is calculated from the beginning of the month, even if the budget is created mid-month. Quarterly Q1: January–March; Q2: April–June; Q3: July–September; Q4: October–December. - Select the date range.

Set the warning threshold by setting the Cost Exceeds in %.
This value is based on the Budget amount set in step 5. Accordingly, the automatically Calculated Amount is displayed.
- From the Notification section, you can either select Email or Slack:

In the Emails field, enter one or more email addresses
that you use to log into Cloudera Observability.

In the Slack Channel IDs field, enter the Slack channel ID.
- In the Subject field, enter a subject for the email that distinguishes the email from another email for a different Auto Action.
