9. Start YARN/MapReduce Services

Application Timeline Server has changed. If you installed ATS with HDP 2.0, you need to add the following properties to yarn-site.xml to continue using ATS:

yarn.timeline-service.leveldb-timeline-store.path=/var/log/hadoop-yarn/timeline
yarn.timeline-service.leveldb-timeline-store.ttl-interval-ms=300000

** If you are upgrading to HDP 2.1.3 or higher, use the following setting: **
yarn.timeline-service.store-class=org.apache.hadoop.yarn.server.timeline.LeveldbTimelineStore

** If you are upgrading to HDP 2.1.2, use the following setting: **
yarn.timeline-service.store-class=org.apache.hadoop.yarn.server.applicationhistoryservice.timeline.LeveldbTimelineStore

yarn.timeline-service.ttl-enable=true
yarn.timeline-service.ttl-ms=2678400000
yarn.timeline-service.generic-application-history.store-class=org.apache.hadoop.yarn.server.applicationhistoryservice.NullApplicationHistoryStore
yarn.timeline-service.webapp.address={PUT_THE_FQDN_OF_ATS_HOST_NAME_HERE}:8188
yarn.timeline-service.webapp.https.address={PUT_THE_FQDN_OF_ATS_HOST_NAME_HERE}:8190
yarn.timeline-service.address={PUT_THE_FQDN_OF_ATS_HOST_NAME_HERE}:10200

Add the following properties to hive-site.xml:

hive.execution.engine=mr
hive.exec.failure.hooks=org.apache.hadoop.hive.ql.hooks.ATSHook
hive.exec.post.hooks=org.apache.hadoop.hive.ql.hooks.ATSHook
hive.exec.pre.hooks=org.apache.hadoop.hive.ql.hooks.ATSHook
hive.tez.container.size={map-container-size}

** If mapreduce.map.memory.mb > 2GB then set it equal to mapreduce.map.memory.
Otherwise, set it equal to mapreduce.reduce.memory.mb **

hive.tez.java.opts=-server -Xmx800m -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -XX:NewRatio=8
-XX:+UseNUMA -XX:+UseParallelGC

Use configuration values appropriate for your environment. For example, the value "800" in the preceding example is an example, not a requirement.

To start YARN, run commands as a YARN user. To start MapReduce, run commands as a MapReduce user.

  1. If you are using an HA enabled system, you must upgrade the ZooKeeper service and it must be running.

  2. Start the ResourceManager on all your ResourceManager hosts.

    su -l yarn -c "/usr/hdp/current/hadoop-yarn-resourcemanager/sbin/yarn-daemon.sh start resourcemanager"

    ps -ef | grep -i resourcemanager

  3. Start the NodeManager on all your NodeManager hosts.

    su - l yarn -c "/usr/hdp/current/hadoop-yarn-nodemanager/sbin/yarn-daemon.sh start nodemanager"

    ps -ef | grep -i nodemanager

  4. To start MapReduce, run the following commands:

    su -l yarn -c "/usr/hdp/current/hadoop-mapreduce-historyserver/sbin/mr-jobhistory-daemon.sh

    start historyserver"

    ps -ef | grep -i jobhistoryserver
