Cloudera Data Visualization Data view

Manage connections, datasets, and data extracts, and explore the databases and tables available through your connections.

The Data view enables you to manage the data used in dashboards and visuals. You can create and manage data connections, datasets, and data extracts, and explore the databases and tables available through your connections.

To open this view, click Data in the left navigation panel. The connections, data, and actions available to you depend on your permissions.

The Data view contains the following main areas:

  1. Connections panel
  2. Data tabs
  3. Data actions
  4. Content area

Connections panel

The connections panel displays the data connections available to you.

You can:

  • Click New connection to connect to a new data source.
  • Click All connections to display datasets from all available connections.
  • Search for a connection.
  • Select a connection to view its datasets, tables, and data extracts.
  • Click the pencil icon next to a connection to edit its details.
  • Collapse the panel to provide more space for the content area.

The ability to create and edit connections depends on your privileges. If you do not have permission to manage connections, you can still view and explore the connections available to you.

Data tabs

Use the tabs at the top of the content area to switch between the following views:

  • Datasets: View and manage available datasets. The number next to the tab indicates how many datasets are displayed.
  • Connection Explorer: Explore the databases and tables available through the selected connection.
  • Data Extracts: View and manage data extracts associated with the selected connection.

Data actions

The following actions are available in the upper-right corner:

  • Actions: Access additional data-management functions, such as clearing the result cache, importing visual artifacts, or enabling Direct Access. The available options depend on your permissions and configuration.
  • New Dataset: Create a dataset. If you selected a specific connection, the new dataset uses that connection.
  • Search: Use the search field to find a dataset.

Content area

Datasets

The Datasets tab displays datasets from the selected connection. If All connections is selected, it displays datasets from all available connections.

The dataset table provides the following information:

  • Dataset title and source table
  • Dataset ID
  • Tags
  • Creation date
  • Last update
  • User who last modified the dataset
  • Number of dashboards using the dataset

You can:

  • Click a dataset title to open it.
  • Click the dashboard count to view the related dashboards that contain visuals created based on the dataset.
  • Use the dashboard icon next to a dataset to create a dashboard based on it.
  • Click the delete icon to delete a dataset, if you have the required permission.
  • Sort the table using the Last Updated column heading.
Connection Explorer

The Connection Explorer tab enables you to browse the databases, datasets, and tables available through the selected connection.

Select a database to view its tables. From the table list, you can:

  • Preview table details and sample data.
  • View datasets based on a table.
  • Create a dataset from a table.
Data Extracts

The Data Extracts tab displays the extracts created from the selected data connection. It provides overall extract statistics and a list of the available extracts.
