Impala Health Tests
Impala Assignment Locality
This is an Impala service-level health test that checks that a sufficient percentage of recent IO tasks are operating on local data. Impala refers to these IO tasks as "assignments". The test returns "Concerning" or "Bad" health if the number of assignments operating on local data falls below a warning or critical thresholds. The number of assignments observed during the test's window must be above a configured minimum number of assignments for the test to be enabled. A failure of this health test may indicate problems with the configuration of the Impala service. Check that each Impala Daemon is co-located with a DataNode, and that the IP address of each Impala Daemon matches the IP address of its co-located DataNode. This test can be configured using the Assignment Locality Ratio Thresholds, Assignment Locality Monitoring Period and Assignment Locality Minimum Assignments Impala service-wide monitoring settings.
Short Name: Assignment Locality
Property Name | Description | Template Name | Default Value | Unit |
---|---|---|---|---|
Assignment Locality Minimum Assignments | The minimum number of assignments that must occur during the test time period before the threshold values will be checked. Until this number of assignments have been observed in the test time period the health test will be disabled. | impala_assignment_locality_minimum | 10 | no unit |
Assignment Locality Monitoring Period | The time period over which to compute the assignment locality ratio. Specified in minutes. | impala_assignment_locality_window | 15 | MINUTES |
Assignment Locality Ratio Thresholds | The health test thresholds for the assignment locality health test. Specified as a percentage of total assignments. | impala_assignment_locality_thresholds | critical:5.0, warning:80.0 | PERCENT |
Impala Catalog Server Health
This Impala service-level health test checks for the presence of a running, healthy Impala Catalog Server. The test returns "Bad" health if the service is running and the Impala Catalog Server is not running. In all other cases it returns the health of the Impala Catalog Server. A failure of this health test indicates a stopped or unhealthy Impala Catalog Server. Check the status of the Impala Catalog Server for more information. This test can be enabled or disabled using the Impala Catalog Server Role Health Test Impala Catalog Server service-wide monitoring setting.
Short Name: Impala Catalog Server Health
Property Name | Description | Template Name | Default Value | Unit |

Impala Catalog Server Role Health Test | When computing the overall IMPALA health, consider Impala Catalog Server's health | impala_catalogserver_health_enabled | true | no unit |
Impala Daemons Health
This is a Impala service-level health test that checks that enough of the Impala Daemons in the cluster are healthy. The test returns "Concerning" health if the number of healthy Impala Daemons falls below a warning threshold, expressed as a percentage of the total number of Impala Daemons. The test returns "Bad" health if the number of healthy and "Concerning" Impala Daemons falls below a critical threshold, expressed as a percentage of the total number of Impala Daemons. For example, if this test is configured with a warning threshold of 95% and a critical threshold of 90% for a cluster of 100 Impala Daemons, this test would return "Good" health if 95 or more Impala Daemons have good health. This test would return "Concerning" health if at least 90 Impala Daemons have either "Good" or "Concerning" health. If more than 10 Impala Daemons have bad health, this test would return "Bad" health. A failure of this health test indicates unhealthy Impala Daemons. Check the status of the individual Impala Daemons for more information. This test can be configured using the Impala Impala service-wide monitoring setting.

Property Name | Description | Template Name | Default Value | Unit |
---|---|---|---|---|
Healthy Impala Daemon Monitoring Thresholds | The health test thresholds of the overall Impala Daemon health. The check returns "Concerning" health if the percentage of "Healthy" Impala Daemons falls below the warning threshold. The check is unhealthy if the total percentage of "Healthy" and "Concerning" Impala Daemons falls below the critical threshold. | impala_impalads_healthy_thresholds | critical:90.0, warning:95.0 | PERCENT |
Impala Llama ApplicationMasters Health
This is a Impala service-level health test that checks that enough of the Impala Llama ApplicationMasters in the cluster are healthy. The test returns "Concerning" health if the number of healthy Impala Llama ApplicationMasters falls below a warning threshold, expressed as a percentage of the total number of Impala Llama ApplicationMasters. The test returns "Bad" health if the number of healthy and "Concerning" Impala Llama ApplicationMasters falls below a critical threshold, expressed as a percentage of the total number of Impala Llama ApplicationMasters. For example, if this test is configured with a warning threshold of 95% and a critical threshold of 90% for a cluster of 100 Impala Llama ApplicationMasters, this test would return "Good" health if 95 or more Impala Llama ApplicationMasters have good health. This test would return "Concerning" health if at least 90 Impala Llama ApplicationMasters have either "Good" or "Concerning" health. If more than 10 Impala Llama ApplicationMasters have bad health, this test would return "Bad" health. A failure of this health test indicates unhealthy Impala Llama ApplicationMasters. Check the status of the individual Impala Llama ApplicationMasters for more information. This test can be configured using the Impala Impala service-wide monitoring setting.

Healthy Impala Llama ApplicationMaster Monitoring Thresholds | The health test thresholds of the overall Impala Llama ApplicationMaster health. The check returns "Concerning" health if the percentage of "Healthy" Impala Llama ApplicationMasters falls below the warning threshold. The check is unhealthy if the total percentage of "Healthy" and "Concerning" Impala Llama ApplicationMasters falls below the critical threshold. | impala_llamas_healthy_thresholds | critical:51.0, warning:99.0 | PERCENT |
Impala StateStore Health
This Impala service-level health test checks for the presence of a running, healthy Impala StateStore. The test returns "Bad" health if the service is running and the Impala StateStore is not running. In all other cases it returns the health of the Impala StateStore. A failure of this health test indicates a stopped or unhealthy Impala StateStore. Check the status of the Impala StateStore for more information. This test can be enabled or disabled using the Impala StateStore Role Health Test Impala StateStore service-wide monitoring setting.
