Supported in-place upgrade paths

Supported upgrade paths for Cloudera Base on premises, Cloudera Data Services on premises, CDH, and HDP.

The tables below detail the supported upgrade paths for upgrades to Cloudera Base on premises and Cloudera Data Services on premises. Before upgrading, ensure that you select a compatible version of Cloudera Manager. See Cloudera Manager Support Matrix.

Upgrades from Cloudera Director are not supported.

  • If you want to upgrade from CDP Private Cloud Base 7.1.9 SP1 or 7.1.7 SP3 to Cloudera Base on premises 7.3.1, you must not have any CHF installed on CDP Private Cloud Base 7.1.9 SP1 or 7.1.7 SP3. The CHFs on CDP Private Cloud Base 7.1.9 SP1 or 7.1.7 SP3 are not in sync with Cloudera Base on premises 7.3.1.
  • Trying to upgrade from CDP Private Cloud Base 7.1.9 SP1 or 7.1.7 SP3 with any CHF to Cloudera Base on premises 7.3.1 could lead to feature regression or loss of few bug fixes.
  • Trying to upgrade from CDP Private Cloud Base 7.1.8 CHF 18 and higher to Cloudera Base on premises 7.3.1 could lead to feature regression or loss of few bug fixes.
  • CDP Private Cloud Base 7.1.8 CHF2 or higher / Cloudera Manager 7.7.1

Upgrading Cloudera Manager to version 7.7.1 or higher from clusters where CDH 5.x is deployed is not supported. To upgrade such clusters:
  1. Upgrade Cloudera Manager to version 6.3.4.
  2. Upgrade CDH to version 6.3.4
  3. Upgrade Cloudera Manager to version 7.7.1

  • Cloudera Manager 7.6.5 is intended for use with CDP Private Cloud Base with CDP Private Cloud Data Services. Cloudera does not recommend using Cloudera Manager 7.6.5 in CDP Private Cloud Base environments without CDP Private Cloud Data Services installations.
1 Upgrade from 7.1.7 SP2 to 7.1.8 CHF4 is not a mandatory upgrade. In 7.1.8 CHF4, you can install Ozone as a parcel.
